Work, Rest & Play - Key to good healthy boat management is balance. You need willing souls fit to help crew the yacht potentially day and night. A comfortable space in which to sleep and for comfort we need good food & drink.

Outcomes - Courses should be fun; you should learn new sailing skills, attitudes and knowledge and potentially gain an RYA qualification as evidence along with a good learner pack.  

NMI have delivered training to RYA syllabus for many years. The benefit of this qualification is that it is recognised worldwide. The downside of this qualification is that it is a bit of a one size fits all. Bespoke courses allow us to contextuliser learning to better suit your needs. For example

• Familiarise yourself with your new yacht/crew
• Develop smoother, fun filled sailing with family, kids and friends with a view to chartering
• Refresh/Polish you skills before sailing abroad
• Cherry pick from other RYA courses; landing & takeoff etc
• Develop racing skills & knowledge

Having sailed from the age of 13, I've more than 20K sea miles experience under my belt, ranging from RYA instruction, cruising, racing, singles sailing, corporate hospitality and team/leadership development.

Home Study

If personal tuition for 1, 2 or a small groups is your preference. Consider; RYA basic navigation, RYA Day skipper or RYA YM Theory.  This can be taken over:

• (5) Five days (Monday to Friday) or
• (3) Three weekends or
• Can be individually tailored to your needs. 

Please budget for the course cost plus travel & accommodation for the instructor. Please discuss your requirement as we can normally make this deal work better for all parties.

Groups / Clubs -

If you organise a small group or club and have access to suitable facilities  NMI in association with a RYA accredited training facility can provide theory courses with the benefit of economy to scale.

If you would prefer to take RYA and practical courses using your own boat the benefits are:

• Familiarity using your own vessel to its full potential
• Initial familiarity (boat handling/passage making) and ownership

Should you wish to use your own boat for RYA Instruction, or simply require coaching in specific areas such as boat handling, pilotage or sail trimming, please call us to discuss your requirements.

Guideline it should be at least 25 feet long and properly equipped with safety equipment and navigational facilities. Budget £175 per day excludes boat costs.

The thing about learning new stuff is that unless you:

• Store your new knowledge, skills, attitudes in a useful way your likely to forget up to 80% within a matter of days. 
• Align your training with your intended use of sailing
