The 40.7 makes up for its slightly basic accommodations with optimum corporate racing. Big fleets and lots of industry, national or international racing.
Well established as the common yacht of choice for performance racing in the UK. Providing exhilarating sailing for intermediate to experienced sailors typically working with a professional skipper and possibly a mate to help with complex manoeuvres (spinnakers etc).
The 40.7 has been optimised for racing under the IRC handicap system (meaning it may compete competitively in races with a wide range of racing yachts) It may be sailed by groups with limited experience with reliance upon a professional skippers and mates acting as guide. Most are modified to provide up to 10 berths(compact accommodation) and are MCA coded (carry a full complement of safety equipment).
